Napoli Centrale and Piazza Garibaldi are busy, chaotic and not necessarily the part of Naples most visitors imagine when they think about eating pizza.
But that does not mean you need to immediately take a taxi or metro towards the historic centre.
There are good options close to the station, particularly useful if you have luggage, a train connection or only a short stop in Naples.
Pizzeria Fortuna — Best for a Quick Pizza Near Napoli Centrale
Pizzeria Fortuna is one of the most practical choices if you want pizza without going far from Napoli Centrale.
It is casual and unpretentious, making it particularly useful when you have just arrived, are travelling with luggage or need to eat before catching another train.
This is the kind of place where I would stick to the classics: start with a Margherita or Marinara rather than choosing the most elaborate pizza on the menu.

Pizzeria Pellone is one of the better-known traditional pizzerias in the area around Napoli Centrale.

Pellone is known for generous Neapolitan pizzas with the soft centre and pronounced crust associated with the city’s traditional style.

Is It Worth Leaving Napoli Centrale for Better Pizza?
If you only have an hour or so between trains, no.
One of the mistakes visitors make in Naples is thinking they have to reach one of the city’s famous historic pizzerias to eat well. You do not.
If your time is limited, eating somewhere good around Piazza Garibaldi or Via Nazionale makes far more sense than spending most of your stop crossing Naples and worrying about getting back to the station.
If you have several hours, however, the situation changes. The historic centre opens up many more choices and is worth exploring rather than limiting yourself to the station area.

Margherita and Marinara are the obvious pizzas to start with if you want to judge the basics rather than the toppings.

Pizza Madre Salvatore Di Matteo is another option around the Municipio and Via Toledo area.

The menu goes beyond the two classic pizzas, so this is a good option if you want something slightly different while still staying within the Neapolitan tradition.

Cruise Port or Train Station: Where Is Better for Pizza?
If you have a choice, the cruise port area gives you more options within the historic centre, while Napoli Centrale is more about convenience.
Around the port, you can eat and still walk towards Municipio, Via Toledo, Galleria Umberto I and the surrounding historic streets.
Around Napoli Centrale, I would think differently: choose a good pizzeria close to the station if you are short on time, or head properly into the historic centre if you have several hours.
Trying to split the difference often means spending too much of your available time travelling.
What Pizza Should You Order in Naples?
If it is your first pizza in Naples, start with a Margherita or Marinara.
These simple pizzas tell you far more about the quality of a pizzeria than a pizza covered with elaborate toppings.
A Margherita relies on the dough, tomato, mozzarella, basil and olive oil. A Marinara is even simpler, traditionally built around tomato, garlic, oregano and olive oil.
If the dough and basic ingredients are excellent, you can explore the rest of the menu from there.
You also do not need to look for the most expensive pizza. Neapolitan pizza began as everyday food, and some of the most satisfying meals in Naples remain remarkably straightforward.
What Makes Neapolitan Pizza Different?
Neapolitan pizza is defined as much by its dough and cooking as by its toppings.
The dough is stretched into a thin centre with a raised, airy edge and cooked very quickly at extremely high heat. The result should be soft and flexible rather than crisp like many other styles of pizza.

The important part is timing: Neapolitan pizza changes quickly as it cools, so it is at its best straight from the oven.
So, Where Should You Eat Pizza Near Naples Train Station or Cruise Port?
If you are near Napoli Centrale or Piazza Garibaldi, choose Pizzeria Fortuna when convenience matters most and Pizzeria Pellone when you have more time for a classic sit-down pizza.
If you are arriving through the Naples cruise port, you have more flexibility. La Lazzara works particularly well when your group wants pizza and other Neapolitan dishes, while Bellillo, Napoli in Bocca and Pizza Madre are all conveniently positioned for combining lunch with a short walk through central Naples.
Most importantly, do not spend a short visit racing across the city because somebody told you there is only one pizzeria in Naples worth eating at.
There isn’t.
The best choice when you arrive by train or cruise ship is a genuinely good pizza that fits the time you have — and leaves enough of that time to enjoy Naples rather than travelling across it.
