How to Make Dried Orange Slices, the ones you see in many stores around Christmas and with which Pinterest is filled? You don’t need any particular skill but you need to have a bit of spare time since the making of this orange slices requires a few hours.

Oranges can be used with or without peel; if you have made candied orange peels, you can use the oranges with no peel, for example, and at the same time if you’ve full oranges… just go for them!

Using the same method, you can dry all kind of citrus: just follow the same instructions and pay attention to the time in the oven ranging from fruit to fruit.

In principle, once they’re dried and cold the oranges are ready to be used: to make them last longer you can spray on the surface with some hairspray so that they will remain firm and last for a few more days.

How to turn your dried orange slices into garlands and Christmas decorations

Once your orange slices are ready, you can use them in different ways:

  • for a potpourri with spices;
  • for your Christmas tree;
  • for your centerpiece
  • for your Christmas garland.

They can also be used to decorate cocktails or food, once is cooked.

Ingredients

  • Oranges

  • Cinnamon sticks

  • Method

    1. Slice the oranges approx 1cm wide
    2. Turn on your oven at the highest temperature
    3. Place the sliced oranges on a rack or a try cover with greaseproof paper
    4. Lower the temperature of the oven to 50°C/120°F, place the baking tray in the center and let the orange slices dry for about 8 hours, leaving the door slightly open.
    5. After 8 hours, turn off the oven and leave the slices inside to cool down.
    6. Your orange slices are ready to be used but if you want them to last longer, spray the surface with some hairspray.
