Puff Pastry Twists – Italian Grissini Breadsticks

Are you looking for a simple and easy Italian recipe to be made as an aperitivo? These puff pastry Italian grissini are simply perfect and they don’t even require too many ingredients or skills.

They can be filled in the way you like; in this recipe I’ve used cheese and black pepper but you can really make them the way you prefer, for example:

  • ham and mayo
  • cheese and bacon
  • mozzarella and tomato
  • tomato and oregano
  • pesto and salami
  • jam
  • chocolate spread (have a look at my recipe)

or just make them plain with the addition of a little salt (have a look at this recipe, a variation)

Puff Pastry Twists: ingredients for 4 people

1 ready rolled puff pastry sheet
1 egg white
grated cheese
black pepper
[Or other optional ingredients for the filling]

Puff Pastry Twists: recipe

1. Unroll the pastry and brush it with the lightly beaten egg white;
2. Spread the mix of cheese and black pepper on the pastry by pressing lightly with your hands to make it stick;
3. Cut strips of the length equal to the width of the sheet;
4. Roll the strips forming spirals and sprinkle them with any mix spilled during processing;
5. Bake at 200° for 15 minutes. Serve hot or warm to taste all the crunchiness.
